Judges for the Fine Arts Show

Stan Price: Stan received his BFA in art from Pacific Lutheran University and attended Central Washington University where he received an MA in glass. During his years in art school, he studied ceramics, printmaking, jewelry and painting, but glass quickly became his favorite medium. Stan worked at Pilchuck Glass School in the 70s, and in 1979 Stan opened Covenant Art Glass, a retail glass store, and has been teaching and producing art glass in Snohomish County ever since. In 2006, Stan was honored to be named the Artist of the Year by the Snohomish County Arts Council.

Alek Kargopoltsev: Alek is a master painter who was born and raised in Russia. Drawing by age 4, he entered art school in his Russian hometown, 200 miles from Moscow. He went on to an art college and gained the equivalent of a master's degree. He now teaches drawing and painting in Skagit and Snohomish County through the Edmonds Parks and Recreation Department, at the Gene Nastri Community School of the Arts and at his Mukilteo studio.

Lloyd Weller: Lloyd is a long-time arts educator in the Department of Photography at Everett Community College. Lloyd has taught both photography and video production since 1969, and has been a student and practitioner of digital photography since 1994. Lloyd earned his BFA and MFA at the Ohio University Department of Photography and Fine Art, in 1966 and 1969 respectively. A passion for photography that he first encountered in high school continues to this day.

Featured Artists

Poster Art Winner:
Sylvia Domoto - Watercolor Artist

Artist Sylvia Domoto's watercolor painting, Poppies on Parade, using vibrant shades of red poppies, was the winning art chosen by her fellow Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild members to be used on the poster for the Guild's 6th Annual Spring Art Show. It is easy to believe Sylvia when she says that watercolor painting has become one of the most enjoyable, challenging experiences of her life. With a special love of watercolor, Sylvia believes "watercolor has a magical quality of its own."

Sylvia has a varied background covering the gamut from a B.S. in nutrition and dietetics to a M.S.W. in geriatric and mental health social work followed by her current vocation as an artist. When she worked with elders as a geriatric social worker, she encouraged her clients to present positive changes for their brains and bodies by learning something new. This is one way to find a rewarding path of discovery, energy and creativity. After Sylvia retired from social work in 2000, she discovered her advice for others was sound when she began to study art in earnest. She has studied under the tutelage of Barbara Syring at Shoreline Community College and Joan Gessner and Caroline Buchanan at Daniel Smith in addition to taking intensive workshops with renowned authors and artists, Tony Couch and Mel Stabin. Her studies continue on Camano Island with Diane Hill.

A long time Seattle area resident, Sylvia has lived on Camano Island since 2002. She is an active member of the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild.

Poster Design by Indy Behrendt
Photographic Artist

Photographic artist and fellow Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild member Indy Behrendt created the poster design for the Guild's 6th Annual Spring Art Show. With over 20 years of photographic experience she prides herself on knowing how to put her subject at the center of the creative process. Using light boxes and special camera stand, Ms. Behrendt photographed the winning art for this year's poster, a watercolor painting "Poppies on Parade" by Sylvia Domoto, and created a vibrant poster for this year's event which will take place at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center in Stanwood the first weekend in June.

Indy Behrendt, owner of A Portrait by Indy, has a large professional studio in the historic east end of Stanwood complete with multiple cameras using either film or digital media. She is always ready to photograph people, places and things in a manner that captures their very essence of being. As she completes her photos and designs, she is able to use one of her many computers to "paint with pixels." An award winning artistic photographer, she received an Honorable Mention for her cowboys on horseback titled It's a Dusty Job at the Guild's 2007 Spring Art Show. Indy also donated her time and talent photographing the winning art from the 2007 judged Spring Art Show for the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild's on-line gallery.

A long time resident of the north Puget Sound area, Indy spent much of her early childhood in Bellingham, Washington where her father was an art professor at Western Washington University. As a teen Indy's family moved to a rural area where she pursued her love of horses and riding. An active member of multiple art and photography organizations including the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild, the work of Indy Behrendt may be seen at this year's Spring Art Show.
