Board Meeting

bulletAnne Daletski would like to ask guild members for volenteers to do signage and get paint for sandwhich boards for art show signs.
bulletBev Reaume briefed the board on the purchase of a cash register for sales at the Schoolhouse Art Show.
bulletSharon Dodge brought to us the issue of Guild members joining CAA members in their 4 Springs "Art Matters" Show Nov. 8th. It was decided to bring it before the Guild members for a vote. Banking papers were brought and signed by Anne Daletski and Mary Ann Hinshaw to add them to the Guild Account. We will be setting up a seperate account dedicated to the Art at the Schoolhouse Show.

General Membership Meeting

bulletBev Reaume gave an update on the Art at the Schoolhouse. She explained the need for a new cash register with Quick Books software to keep an accurate record of sales at the Schoolhouse Show, and a motion was entered. Members passed the motoin. There will be a training session on the use of the cash register and wireless credit card machine by those working at the show.
bulletA motion to use $300 of Guild monies for bags, tissue, bubble wrap etc. for Art at the Schoolhouse was made by Bev Reaume and 2nd by Jerry Finn. Christensen's Nursery will allow us to store money and change with them as needed at night.
bulletSue Morrison gave a Scholarship update.
bulletThanks was given to all who helped Anne Daletski with the Snow Goose project. The "Arts Event" brochure looks great. Thanks Anne!
bulletAnne Daletski has wood donated and needs help with making generic Art Show sandwich board signs that we can use for the Schoolhouse Show and the Spring Show. Gary Wold volenteered to help. We need donations of paint also and possibly more wood. We need to find out the rules for placing signs on the road for the Tulip Festival Schoolhouse Show.
bulletVictor Loverro reminded us of the deadline of March 18th for poster contest for "Harvest Jubilee" in Stanwood Sept. 20th. A logo is also needed for anyone interested in doing one.
bulletSharon Dodge explained the 4 Springs "Art Matters" Show Nov. 8th and asked if SCAG members would like to join the CAA members in a joint show. Sue Morrison made a motion that we do so and 2nd by Ray Fossum. Vote by guild membership was approved. 10% of slaes go to 4 Springs.
bulletAnne Daletski gave an update on "Spring Show". She brought up a possibility fo renting the Masonic Hall across the street for art show booth space and demos. Discussion of this was tabled until next meeting.
bulletTime was turned to Chuck Branch to talk to us about making prints and giclee' of artists work. He does reproduction and large format printing at his stuido on Camano Island. We thank him for the enlightening infomation. Anyone interested can call 360-387-8937.
bulletSylvia Domoto won the "Spring Show" poster contest with the vote of the guild members. It was a colorful painting of poppies.
bulletThere is a poster contest open to booth Guilds for the new cover of the Stanwood Camano Guide. Deadline is in April.

Board Meeting

Two items involving banking were discussed. First, the Board discussed who should have signing privileges for the bank accounts. Currently the President, Elaine Iodice, and the Treasurer, Libby Michialoff, are listed on the accounts. It was decided that it would be best to add the 1st Vice President, Anne Daletski, and the Secretary, Mary Ann Hinshaw, to these accounts. Elaine will obtain signature cards from the bank for Anne and Mary Ann to sign. Second, because we will be involved in the Tulip Festival with Art at the Schoolhouse, it has been decided to set up a separate dedicated account for this show. Elaine Iodice (President), Libby Michialoff (Treasurer) and Beverly Reaume (Chairperson - Art at the Schoolhouse) will be in charge of this account. The board members in attendance unanimously agreed to institute these changes. Additionally, the Guild will begin using a wireless seasonal account to accept credit card transactions at our shows. This will mean that approval or rejection of credit cards will be made at the point of sale.

The Stanwood Camano Area Foundation will sponsor a workshop on February 29th with Susan Howlett about grant writing and fund raising. Elaine and Anne volunteered to attend. Theresa Metzger indicated an approximate cost of $50.00 per person and a limit of 4 individuals from each group. Per information provided by Libby prior to the meeting, this fee will not be reimbursed by the Guild to those attending.

The Stanwood Camano Arts Guild will have a 10 X 10 booth during the Snow Goose Festival the weekend of February 23 - 24 to promote the Guild and various shows sponsored by the Guild throughout the year. We have been notified that our booth will be located at the Masons' Hall (where we have our Holiday Party & White Elephant Gift Exchange) across the street from the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center.

Victor Loverro mentioned hearing about both the Harvest Jubilee and a show sponsored by Gallery by the Bay in conjunction with a Whidbey group but it was decided we would not make any announcement as we were not contacted by anyone about either venue. Victor said he will check further and send an email at a later date.

General Membership meeting

Hallie Price announced that Art in Public Places will rotate art again on Thursday, March 27th from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. A sign-up sheet was circulated at the meeting. We now have 4 venues in Stanwood with 4 volunteers handling each location. They are: Frontier Bank - Anne Daletski Washington Federal - Ann Curtis Stanwood Physical Therapy - Jan Nicholson Stanwood Camano Area Foundation - Melanie Serroels Note: S-CAF is moving to Viking Village It was asked if artists ever sell their work through this exposure. Hallie informed us that a few have sold. The art hangs for 6 months. If a piece of art sells, it is the artist's responsibility to replace the sold art with another.

Anne Daletski circulated sign up sheets for the 6th Annual Spring Art Show. If you did not sign up and are interested in volunteering, please contact Anne at camanoART@yahoo.com (The first Spring Art Show committee meeting will probably take place Monday afternoon, February 18, 2008)

Melanie Serroels is the coordinator for this year's community banner program. She informed us that banner painting will once again take place at the Four Springs Preserve on Camano Island. She had scheduled a meeting with the City of Stanwood and informed us that she'll be sending an email to us later.

Melanie also plans to have a few signed posters for the Snow Goose Festival available during the festival. They may be obtained for a small donation at Four Springs Preserve, the Floyd Norgaard, the Snow Goose Book Store and the Stanwood Chamber of Commerce.

Free as the Birds: Susan Cohen Thompson is coordinating art to be hung at Four Springs Preserve. Art will be installed on February 7th and will be up throughout the Snow Goose festival. Artists may display up to 3 pieces. Contact Susan with any questions.

Anne Daletski asked for a volunteer to help her design a brochure to hand out during the Snow Goose Festival for the Stanwood Camano Arts Guild and the Guild's three 2008 shows. Bec Thomas volunteered. Thanks Bec!

Bev Reaume has sent the prospectus and applications for Art at the Schoolhouse via email. She was surprised that she still has space available. Completed materials are to be sent to Bev by February 9th. Remember, participating in daily indoor or outdoor space includes a commitment to work 2 full days at Christianson's circa 1888 Schoolhouse from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Tent space is available the weekend of April 18 to 20th. Tent vendors will "man" their own tents and are not required to work in the Schoolhouse if their only venue is the weekend tent portion of the show.

Art by the Bay has a May 19th registration date. Members get a special rate, but if the application is postmarked alter than May 31st, the full rate is to be paid. Member rates are as follows: 10 X 10 @ $ 75.00 (full rate $150.00) 10 X 20 @ $150.00 (full rate $300.00) half booth @ $40.00 (full rate $80.00) 10 X 2 in the hallway @ $40.00 (full rate $80.00) You may keep your space from last year if the application is received on time. New spaces are assigned on a first come first serve basis.

The Childrens Booth at Art by the Bay will not include toddlers and elementary school children in 2008. This year it will only be available for teenagers.

We had 3 individuals jury in to the Guild at the January 23, 2008 meeting. All were unanimously accepted. They are: Molly Le Master (watercolors) mdlemaster@wavecable.com Holly Evans (pencil drawings, portraits, acrylics) caho.evans@wavecable.com Rocky Barrick (pencil, wildlife, illustrator, Americana, trains, acrylics, watercolors, oils) drbarrick@hotmail.com 360-435-3457 They will each complete an application form at a later date as there were none at the meeting. Welcome all!

Remember, we will be jurying art for posters. February 27th bring something to be juried for the 6th Annual Spring Art Show (a judged members only show). All art is eligible, both 2D and 3D art. The show is at the Floyd the first weekend in June this year. March 26th we'll be jurying poster art for Art by the Bay.

October, 2007

December 8th - no regular meeting - Holiday Potluck & White Elephant Party Masonic Lodge, 27205 102nd Ave NW, Stanwood, WA: Social Hour 6:00pm Dinner 7:00pm

Board: discussed the Christmas Party of December 8th. The board members will meet at 10:00am on the 8th to set up equipment and decorations. The party will start at 6:00pm with plans to eat at 7:00pm. The date of the November meeting was discussed when it was realized that the 4th Wednesday of the month is after Thanksgiving this year, so the meeting will take place on November 28th.

Dues: We still have some members who need to pay their dues. Those paid by October 31st are $25.00. Anything after October 31st is considered late. Late dues are $30.00 for the year. Those current members who have not paid by January will no longer be on the roster per the treasurer, Libby Michialoff.

Scholarships: Debi Adair asked about the $500.00 annual high school student scholarship. It was noted that the $200.00 adult scholarship is in addition to the $500.00 scholarship for younger students at the high school.

Elections: The following board members were at the end of their current terms and volunteered to continue in their current positions: Hallie Price, John Muhler, Libby Michialoff and Elaine Iodice. We needed a new secretary to replace Jeannie Burham and Mary Ann Hinshaw agreed to fill this position as requested by Elaine Iodice. Elaine submitted the entire ticket to the attending membership for a vote by hands and all were elected unanimously. We would like to extend a special welcome to our newest member of the board, Mary Ann Hinshaw, Secretary. (Some of our newer members may not know that Mary Ann will be Connie Hevly's assistant for Art by the Bay starting in 2008; her new position as secretary will probably help her in this capacity.) Thank you Jeannie for a job well done and your years of service. We'll all miss your funny little quips in the meeting notes. Libby has also made it abundantly clear that she will not continue as treasurer for more than the next 2 years. She kept that great smile of hers but sounded like she meant it! She asked that each of you consider taking this post in 2009. It would be best to start to learn about this important job before she actually turns the books over to the next treasurer, so please feel free to let her know if this is something you would like to do.

Committees:

1.) Newsletters - Bobbye Miller volunteered to spearhead our newsletter but needs help. We have not had a newsletter for quite a few months. Someone with computer skills would make this job easier. Bobbye's email address is bobbyeamiller@yahoo.com

2.) Programs - Sue Morrison is heading the program committee for this fiscal year. She has Dan Koffman coming to talk to us next month (Nov. 28th). If anyone has any suggestions for other programs, please contact Sue. Her email address is shaggydoglovers@yahoo.com

3.) Refreshments - Funny thing. John Muhler wasn't even at this meeting and still I heard that he thinks we need a refreshment committee! After some comments and laughter about whether we even needed refreshments, Melanie Serroels raised her hand enthusiastically and stated that if she knew what he wanted for refreshments, she'd bring something for John. Then Candi Martin-Baker pipped up and said she thought we should have John head the committee. Not a bad idea, then John would get what he likes. So John, when do you start? Is anyone else laughing besides me? A little comedy relief never hurts.

4.) Scholarships - This is the annual scholarship committee that works with the art teacher at Stanwood High School, Gail Merrick. The committee reviews information to determine which high school student will be awarded our $500.00 scholarship. (The winner last spring was KC Kleek.) The 2008 volunteers are: Sue Morrison - Chairperson, Debi Adair, Lane Rowell and Bobbye Miller.

Tulip Festival: Elaine announced that we are going forward with our new presence at the 2008 Tulip Festival. Our venue at Christianson's Nursery is titled "Art at the Schoolhouse." We have submitted our information to the folks who coordinate the Tulip Festival brochure. Remember, the chairperson is Beverly Reaume.

Art in Public Places: Hallie thanked her helpers for Art in Public Places Ann Curtis, Anne Daletski and Jan Nicholson. Those of our Guild members who signed up for this will have their art displayed at Washington Federal Bank, Frontier Bank and Stanwood Physical Therapy until April 2008. Hallie will probably have new sign up sheets for the next rotation at the March 2008 meeting.

Olympics: Sue Morrison made a follow up statement on her suggestions from the September meeting when she indicated she had recently been visiting in Canada and they are getting ready for the 2010 Winter Olympics. A second train is planned to run between Mt. Vernon and the events. She wondered if there might be a way for us to exhibit or sell art during this time. There will be many visitors to this area from all over the world. At the October 24th meeting she stated she has heard that the art groups in Everett are already making plans to take advantage of the extra people in the area in 2010. It's probably a good thing that she's reminding us that it isn't too soon to start planning for this rare opportunity. Remember, we may have a train stop in Stanwood by then. Put your creative thinking caps on so we can all cash in on this. If anyone wants to volunteer to be on an idea committee, it probably isn't too soon to start. I'd be willing to bet Sue'll be there! Plus it's a good excuse to go out for coffee and ... whatever ...

September, 2007

Board: Discussed the Guild's participation in the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and the impact on our Treasurer: keeping track of money for dues, Art by the Bay, Tulip Festival, and Spring Show. Also, Libby expressed concern for use of the Guild's charge machine and phone access at Christiansen's during the Tulip Festival. Libby contacted the bank and was told we could have their seasonal credit card set up which only costs $92.50 for the months we need to use it. This machine is wireless and does not need access to any phone line. The credit cards are either accepted or denied at the time of the purchase. We felt it would be worth it for the Guild to spend this amount of money to have a more secure system and believe each show itself should absorb the cost of this machine. Artists could be charged whatever the additional service charges are per purchase or we could decide on something else if it is easier and equitable.

Art by the Bay: Certificates were presented to a few of the Guild members who had contributed to Art by the Bay, with extra efforts, time, energy and support. Jeannie presented them on behalf of Connie Hevly, Art by the Bay chairwoman. -Tim & Dian Dangler, for the beautiful new Art by the Bay signs -Don & Carol Akerley, for service above and beyond the call of duty during Hurricane Camano -Andy Hill, also for service above and beyond the call of duty during Hurricane Camano -Elaine Iodice, for weathering the storms of 2007-2008

Public art: will rotate again October 18th, 2pm, at the three locations: Washington Federal Bank, Stanwood Physical Therapy and Frontier Bank. Hallie had sign-up sheets for those interested in participating.

New members were juried: Kristine Bougie - colored pencil, watercolor Sharon Dodge - oils, acrylics Luanne Knutzen - watercolor, gouache, scratch art Wanda Kupersmith - watercolor Don Ohlson - acrylics Rodney Patzer - copper Russ Riddle - woodworking, marquetry Donna Schlegman - mixed media painting Mary Simmons - glass Dianna Shyne - acrylics Sue Simpson - collage Jeff Wernli - watercolor AJ & Jack Ferrell - ceramics

Tulip Festival: Beverly Reaume, co-chair of the Guild's Tulip Festival committee, gave a brief summary of our participation in the 2008 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The Guild would be able to use a historic schoolhouse building at Christianson's nursery for all of April for $600. An ad in the brochure cost $300. There is about 20 x 25 feet useable space in the building. Set-up would occur in March. Some outdoor space is available for canopies, but there really isn't any security. Planning is still in progress with more specifics to come in the following months. If you can help or have questions, contact Beverly at 360-387-5619.

The outdoor space available for canopies at Christianson's Nursery during Art at the Schoolhouse (Tulip Festival) measures approximately 60' X 63'. Although some believe security is an issue, I mentioned that Christianson's has a great deal of their own merchandise outdoors. The outdoor space we have is surrounded by tall, deep, large hedges on 2 sides (including the road side and along the south) plus the Schoolhouse blocks a most of the access to the north. I encouraged everyone to pay a visit to the nursery to see for themselves what we will be allowed to use. I suggested that everyone think about taking advantage of selling their art remembering that many tourists come through the tulip fields (some come by the bus load!) and will be looking for garden art and small things they may put in a suitcase to take home. Jennifer Bowman told me that at Tulip Town most of their purchases are for smaller inexpensive items.

Spring Art Show: will be held the first weekend in June, 2008. The venue is new: the Floyd Norgaard Center in Stanwood. We'll be able to set up on Thursday, June 5th. Friday, a patron's party—art show on Saturday and Sunday. More information at a later date re: poster art.

White Elephant Gift Exchange+Holiday Party: will be held on December 8th at the Masonic Hall in Stanwood. Start gathering, creating, imagining your White Elephant and make plans to attend this festive and fun potluck party.

Snow Goose Festival: The artwork for the Snow Goose Festival poster is due October 10th between 11am and 2pm at the Stanwood Chamber of Commerce office.

August, 2007

Stats: Libby presented a comparison of money earned, spent, profit/loss, membership participation in events, and other data. Of particular note: about 20% of our members participate in either Art by the Bay or the Spring Show. 40% of the membership participates in both arts events. Libby will keep records over the next couple of years to be sure we are meeting the needs of the membership.

Art by the Bay Issues: About 21 Guild members responded to Elaine’s survey re: Art by the Bay issues. The Board considered all recommendations including limiting the event to just Guild members, parking, moving the location to the fairgrounds, cap the number of vendors, open the hallway, members get priority for locations, parking again, finding consistent volunteer help, music, children’s booth and competition. After much discussion it was decided to limit the participation to artists in the northwest, with a cap of 150 vendors. Parking can be improved with addition signage, monitoring and possible vendor parking at the Senior Center. It must be emphasized that all vendors lose customers when out patrons are circling the driveway looking for a place to park. There will no longer be volunteer shuttle drivers for vendors due to liability issues. Professional drivers will be considered for 2008. Also, there may be liability issues with out-of-area artists staying in our homes. This may also be discontinued. Guild members already have priority for spots in Art by the Bay as well as a dicounted participation fee. But, all participants must adhere to the entry deadline. After the deadline, there will be a late fee and no guarantee there will be a space for you as these are limited. The 2008 fees are raised to $150 (non-members) and $75 (members).

Tulip Festival: Anne reported on an option for the Guild’s possible participation in the Tulip Festival. A 20x30 space is available to rent from Christianson’s Nursery at $600 for the month of April. It’s located across from Roozengaard. The cost of the ad in the Tulip Festival brochure is $300 for the first year, $400 the second year and $500 after that. (The brochure ad needs to be sent in by September 30th). This would be an opportunity for the Guild membership to co-operatively exhibit and sell artwork during the tulip festival. *Please see Elaine’s message included in this newsletter* If you decide to participate, know that you will be required to work some shifts as cashier, host, greeter, set-up, etc. There would also be an expense for new signs and other advertising, as well as payment for a chairperson for the festival. The Guild is also looking for committee members. Participation alternatives are flexible: participate for one week, two weeks, the entire month and perhaps other options. If you are interested in participating, contact Elaine as soon as possible. 387-7869 or elaine_ian@wavecable.com

Other: 1.) Discussed he Guild’s involvement in a Visitor Information Brochure. What is the cost? 2.) The Guild’s scholarship student will be given space to display art in the Guild Member’s booth at Art by the Bay. 3.) CAA would like to borrow grids and pedestals for an allmembers show they are having in November at Four Springs. 4.) Elaine will continue on as Guild President for another term. 5.) Jeannie is stepping down as Secretary this year. 6.) And... is there anyone who would like to take over the NEWSLETTER???

June, 2007

Tulip Festival/Spring Show - The Board discussed the idea of Guild members exhibiting artwork during the Tulip Festival. One of the main projects would be to find a space to rent, the Rexville Grange was mentioned as a possibility. Guild members participating would also staff the exhibit. This would be one other opportunity for artists to show and sell their artwork. Elaine would like the membership to consider changing the date of the Spring Show. Maybe during Memorial Day weekend.

Members were asked to consider participating in the Tulip Festival. This would be an opportunity for art sales during the popular festival. The cost of advertising in the festival brochure is $300. All members who chose to participate would be responsible to staff the site as a cooperative event. (In 2010, Skagit Valley is hosting the World Tulip Conference. The Tulip Festival brings in many tourists, locals and art patrons—folks who often drive right past Camano Island and Stanwood.)

Artist's Yard Sale - Art by the Bay and the Uncommon Commons market: There will be another event coinciding with Art by the Bay, held at Brindles at the Camano Commons. There will be an artist's rummage sale as well as the weekend outdoor market. We don't want to have people think that this is Art by the Bay. A booth will be set up with artist information, business cards. poster, concert schedule and directions to the site at the school for Art by the Bay.

Board meeting in August - There is no general membership meeting for July or August. Jeannie will not be continuing on for another term as Secretary. A nominating committee will be formed.

Art by the Bay - Connie Hevly introduced her assistant for Art by the Bay, Mary Ann Hinshaw. Vendors, try to get dropped off to help ease the parking issues. A booth ID will be issued for better set-up coordination. It is very helpful if vendors can set up on Friday. Kiwanis will have fish & chips on Friday evening for vendors' dinner. Thank you, Tim, for the new signs. Some other areas needing help: a booth ID maker table set up and supervised at Brindle's (Sue Morrison suggested getting balloons) coffee ticket printer (for free cup of coffee) music set-up/take-down place signs/ take down signs parking guide at Island Co. offices children's booth helpers. Sharon Dodge will be helping in the Children's Booth. Sharon is not even a member yet. (Thank you!) The credit card machine will be available for Art by the Bay sales through Hallie Price. If you are using any of the Guild's grids, pick them up at the storage barn at 9:00 am Friday. Posters can start going up after the 4th if July.

Art Displays - Public art will rotate again in September at the three locations: Washington Federal Bank, Stanwood Physical Therapy and (?). Hallie will have more information at the next meeting.

The Other 51 Weekends project has 11 or 13 artists signed up with room for more.

Upcoming Meetings - Don't forget, the next meeting is September 26th—an opportunity to jury NEW MEMBERS. In November, there will be a program on how to market art.

May, 2007

The "Art by the Bay discussion" will be postponed until after the festival. All members are encouraged to give it some thought and share ideas and suggestions at a future meeting. Thoughts and ideas are welcome anytime; contact a Guild board member.

The Harvest Jubilee was introduced to the Guild by Vivian Henderson. The Jubilee is a revitalized version of a 1930s event, showcasing area farms and farming with a goal of stimulating agri-tourism. It will be held September 22nd in Stanwood with involvement of the Historical Society, Twin City Foods, local truck farmers, harvest vehicles, pea equipment, a tractor show, displays and exhibits, a barbeque and a dance. Sue Morrison (joking under the alias of "Hallie Price") volunteered to chair an art exhibit. Vivian suggested also another Art Walk at the same time. The next meeting of the Harvest Jubilee planning committee will be May 30, 5pm, Floyd Norgaard Center. Open to the public. The Jubilee is asking artists to submit designs for a poster for the event. For more information, contact Vivian at 360-652-2569 or vmail@cedarcomm.com

The Spring Show - Elaine has asked Guild members to consider a month-long participation in the Tulip Festival as an alternative to the Spring Art Show. Since we are not on the 'tulip trail', it might be a good idea to move the Spring Show to the tulip festival route. (see notes from the board meeting above) Another idea is to change the date of the Spring Show to coincide with the February Snow Goose Festival. More discussion to follow at a later date.

Art by the Bay Update: 145 vendors this year with 61 of them Guild members. Definitely growing! Connie is looking for an assistant which the Guild will pay $200.00 Contact Connie Hevly: 360-387-5815 or cjhev@earthlink.net There's still space in the Guild members group booth. Contact Sue Morrison. 360-387-1222 Bobbi Foltz is organizing the Childrens Booth for Art by the Bay with the help of Mike Munz. Mike will give and oil painting demo. They are looking for acrylic and watercolor artists to demonstrate. If you have any mat board, 8x10ish, they will happily accept your donation. The art this year will be done using photo references and the kids will be encouraged to enter their artwork in the Fair. There may also be a mural project for older kids.

Program - Encaustic Painting: A program was presented by John Vanderbrooke on his very non-traditional method of encaustic painting. John has been experimenting with encaustic the past 4 years, using a small iron to melt the encaustic stick then applying directly onto paper. He uses tissue paper, Kleenex, photos, color copies and even rubber stamps in his creations. You can find his artwork at Gallery North in Edmonds. His website is www.FunEasyArt.com

April 2007

C of Cs: The Guild now has membership in both the Camano Island and the Stanwood Chambers of Commerce. Anne Daletski is the contact person for the Camano Chamber and Norman Kearsley is our representative for the Stanwood Chamber. The Guild's Spring Art Show artists' biography binder is now at the Stanwood Chamber; there are approximately 50 biographies/artist statements/samples of art in the binder. If additional Guild members wish to add information to the binder, remember each member is entitled to one page (front and back). There are 20 empty plastic sleeves in the back of the binder for your use. All information is filed in the binder alphabetically by last name.

Art by the Bay - the KIDS booth: Bobbi Foltz and Connie Kanarick are once again heading this portion of ABB. In an effort to keep things neat and orderly, they plan to have a theme of "By the Bay" this year. They need volunteers to help them. Bobbi said, "Helpers will be allowed to show their work." You may send an email to Bobbi at bobbifoltz@yahoo.com or call her.

Art by the Bay - Members booth: In previous years we had a 10x10 booth for Guild members wishing to display 1 to 4 pieces of art and we have room to go back to doing this again. Sue Morrison will chair. She and her husband, Ted, will be responsible for getting the booth set up, making sure the work is displayed and scheduling volunteers to "man" the booth. The booth fee will be divided among the Guild's member artists who participate in this opportunity.

Support our local artists! Friday, April 27th, there was a resident art show at Merrill Gardens called "Art in the Gardens" with a reception beginning at 3:00pm featuring guest artist and fellow Guild member, Bev Paulson. Refreshments were served.

"The Other 51 Weekends:" Our speaker, Dan Koffman, understands and pursues the business end of art. He and fellow guild member, Sue Morrison, have come up with an idea much like our Guild member's biography binder, but with the emphasis on encouraging patrons to visit your studio or gallery so it will be easier for people to purchase your art. Dan had samples of what he needs to compile this information. The pages will be 8.5" x 5.5" and will face each other so they may fit in the display racks at the Camano Chamber Visitor Information Center. You will need to provide 10 sets of these pages for Dan's Display binders.

Participation in this project will require at least 500 - 4x9 rack cards designed anyway you as the creator wish with the following exceptions; they must include a map of where you, your studio or your gallery are located and they must include your open hours or if you take appointments only. If you are closed, you must place a GALLERY CLOSED sign at your facility so any art patrons who drive to your place know upon driving up to it that for some reason you are closed.

The project launches after Mother's Day and has a deadline of June 1st to get needed, completed elements to Dan. Those with questions may contact Dan.

March 2007

Art by the Bay Poster selection: After a vote by members present, an acrylic painting by John Muhler was chosen as the artwork for Art by the Bay 2007.

Meeting Program: At the March guild meeting we had a speaker, Carie Collver, Gallery Director, Arts Council of Snohomish Council. The Arts Council mission statement is, "Celebrate and promote art for the enhancement of the community."

Carrie provided wonderful tips for approaching a Gallery: 1. Investigate the gallery (will it carry your line of work?) 2. Call to make an appointment to see if the gallery would like to carry your art. 3. Keep your portfolio current (learn how to photograph your art or have it done professionally). She also distributed handouts explaining how to construct your portfolio.

Some other suggestions provided by Carrie: 1. Art Calendar is a publication to keep you up to date and informed. www.artcalendar.com 2. Get a website together. Many Galleries accept digital images for juried shows. 3. Make up some business cards. It's also nice if you can use one of your images on the cards. 4. Mat (neutral color) and frame artwork for shows and galleries. Simple and modest works best.

For more information: Arts Council of Snohomish County is located in the Historic Monte Cristo at 1507 Wall Street in Everett. 425-257-8380 P.O. Box 5038 Everett, WA 98206 artsinfo@artscouncilofsnoco.org

Music Too: The Stanwood Camano Arts Guild has a few members who create visually and musically. Steve Harris and Friends had  two wonderful free concerts the final weekend of March to celebrate the release of their new CD. One was in Everett and the second was at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center in Stanwood. Attendance was great, refreshments were served and the music was toe tapping terrific.

Newsletter Archive

The Guild Newsletter is currently on hiatus. (That is, until we find a new volunteer, we won't have a newsletter.) Past editions, edited by the fabulous Jeannie Burham, are available here in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. You probably already have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, (but you might want to upgrade to the latest version anyway - they do get better with age). Click one of the blue links below, and if a Newsletter fails to appear, click here to download a free copy of Adobe Reader.
