July 19, 2008 Noon to 6 PM Seagrass Gallery is proud to announce the official grand opening celebration, to be held at the new location at the Camano Plaza on Saturday, April 19. The gallery opens at Noon, but the fun really starts at 1:30, when Walt and Marilyn Grosjean of Porkbut BBQ begin serving sandwiches and samples of their award-winning BBQ. And then at 2:00, enjoy live music by The South End String Band, legendary local purveyors of fiddle tunes and front-porch wit & wisdom. This judged show will include hundreds of works by many of the area's best artists. July 12, 2008, 10AM -2PM Artists whose work has not been previously shown in the American Association of University Women's Stanwood-Camano Invitational Art Shows are being recruited to submit 3-5 samples of their medium to a jury panel on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Stanwood United Methodist Church, between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. The church is located at the corner of 102nd Drive and 271rst NW in downtown Stanwood. Selected artists will display and have their art sold at the 27th AAUW Invitational Art for Education Show, scheduled for Friday, September 19th through Sunday, September 21, 2008. This year’s show will again be presented at “The Floyd” Norgaard Cultural Center in Stanwood. Sales from the Art Show are the major fund raiser for the AAUW Scholarship Fund which every year provides scholarships to area students who will be entering their junior year of college. The public is warmly welcomed to attend and purchase art during that weekend as an on-going investment in the future of the Stanwood-Camano Island community. Newly selected artists will be notified by August 1, 2008. Previous art show participants need not submit their work for the jury. The show features a variety of fine arts disciplines with over 85 local and regional artists, including some of the foremost names in the Puget Sound area. Over 250 works will be on display and for sale. Funds raised by art sales are used to award college scholarships to local students with outstanding academic and leadership qualities.

Over 250 works will be on display and for sale. Funds raised by art sales are used to award college scholarships to local students with outstanding academic and leadership qualities. This year's poster image is a watercolor by Molly Lemaster entitled "Clownfish." The piece was photographed by Bruck Borthwick; the poster was designed by Mark Dodge.
On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Sayre Cooney Dodgson of Stanwood, the Stanwood House Gallery is mounting an exhibition of her art along with work by her mother, Fanny Cory, a nationally known artist and illustrator from the early 20th century, and other members of this family of artists. The exhibit will open on Saturday, July 14th with a celebration to which all are invited (6 - 9 pm.) and will continue through August 14th. Sept 29: On September 29 at 5:00 PM, the Gallery in the Loft presents the 10th installment in the Loft Lecture Series, when Camano Island watercolor artist Susan Cohen Thompson will discuss her process and philosophy. Susan, who is currently on the board of the Camano Arts Association, has been painting and exhibiting professionally since 1979. Her paintings have been shown in Boston, New York, Washington, and Oregon galleries. Susan has an extensive resume of solo and group exhibitions, and publications. Currently president of the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild, John has been a professional artist and art instructor for over 25 years, creating vibrant and striking images using a variety of techniques. Last year’s Christmas House was a huge success, so with a new location, a little more space, and a lot of the same old energy and Christmas spirit, the house is rockin’ again!
