More About the Performers ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nick Vigarino & Meantown Blues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Putting Pocket Monkey into a specific genre is all but impossible. They are a 6-piece band playing intricate original polyrhythmic instrumental jazz compositions with diverse influences, including eastern European melodies, traditional jazz, classic TV theme songs, and hip-hop sampling. You'll hear orchestral complexities reminiscent of Frank Zappa's big bands, and at times they evoke a Jethro Tull-like rock sweetness. All of the band members play numerous gigs with other bands and orchestras while making time to rehearse and record regularly with Pocket Monkey. Live performances are rare and always memorable. This amazing and eclectic band of top-notch musicians rehearses for a year between one or two stunning annual performances, and this time Art by the Bay gets one of them. Don't miss this one! For more, see: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Steve Harris & Friends play finely-crafted original folk rock pop country jazz tunes with big fat harmonies and sometimes a ukulele. The band has a local following and a brand new CD, Here On Island Time, which is beginning to garner some rave reviews. Steve Harris sings and plays guitar, Mark Dodge sings and plays guitar, bass, ukulele, and keyboards, Wende Hilyard sings oh so sweetly and plays percussion, Thomas Kemper keeps all four limbs moving at all times on drums & percussion, and utility man Patrick Donicht plays bass, percussion and keyboards. Here's what one reviewer said about their new CD:
Take a detour with this metamorphic band of Camano Island musicians playing their take on slightly psychedelic bluesy folk-tinged rock and roll. Join them on their ride through a wide variety of familiar tunes with a few originals tossed in. This is the latest and best incarnation of a band that has, in one form or another, played at virtually every "music enabled" Art by the Bay. The band currently consists of Cathy Tibert on vocals, acoustic guitar, flute and harmonica; Eric Wilmoth on lead guitar and vocals; Mark Bamber on lead guitar and vocals; Paul Tibert on bass guitar; and Scott Tracewell on drums and percussion. They’ll surely have your spirits up singing and dancing along with their infectious jams and grooves. For more, see: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Black and Blues was started in the spring of 2005 in Mount Vernon, WA as a Blues Brothers cover band. Originally they came together only to play at a singe high school event, but the band, filled with great young musicians, quickly started getting offers for gigs and decided to keep it together. The live show is filled with energy you can't help but dance to. The band is a fluid entity, and members may include Alex L. on vocals and harmonica; Johnny D. on vocals and percussion; Chris E.on guitar and vocals; Kyle "E-Z Street" E. on drums; Loren M. on bass; Brendan A. on keyboards; Kyle M on baritone & alto sax; Jon B. on alto sax; Nick M. on trumpet; and Lauren L. on Vocals. The actual line-up changes all the time. You're gonna hear some blues, some rock, some funk and some soul, all with the best solos you've ever heard, along with a driving rhythm section and wailing horns. Songs you've heard, but played in a way you've never heard them. For more, see: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Local favorites Mark Bamber and Renegade Radio deliver a set that takes you on a tour of the blues, ranging from intimate acoustic blues to classic electric blues to rockin' dance grooves. Specializing in blues and "blue-eyed soul," Mark and the boys perform songs by J.J Cale, Peter Green, Albert King, B.B. King, Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac and many others. Veteran musicians all, Mark Bamber and Jeff Lemaich sing and play smokin' lead guitars, with Dan Lemaich on drums and vocals, and bass player Hugh Pastoriza. A great party band to kick off Blue Sunday! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
